About
Constance Wasserman is an Italian-Swiss writer and street photographer based in London. Her work asks how cities distribute attention: who is enlarged, who is overlooked and what happens when the gaze is returned. Working primarily with an iPhone, she photographs the relationships between people, commercial images, public language, architecture, labour and the structures that organise visibility in contemporary cities.
Her essays examine art, performance, cultural institutions and the politics of looking. Across photography and writing, she is interested in the unstable exchange between watcher and watched — and in the moment the observer becomes visible too.
Her ongoing photographic projects include Complete Your Natural, Small Gods, Choose Your Style, The Reply, The Overlooked and Look Back. Made across Europe, Asia and the Americas, the photographs draw on observations from London, New York, Mexico City, Panama City, Lisbon, Marseille, Berlin, Milan, Athens, Bangkok and Bali.
Alongside her photography and writing, Constance is developing artist-led participatory formats for museums and cultural institutions. This work grew from sustained observation of how visitors move through exhibitions and how institutions shape attention. Drawing on her experience in audience development, events and project delivery at Google and Amazon, she is currently developing For You: a proposed one-room participatory pilot exploring slower and more reciprocal encounters between visitors and artworks.
